Dr. Bakan’s clinical work covers anesthesia and reanimation across the perioperative period, from preoperative assessment through anesthetic management during a procedure to postoperative care. His areas of expertise also include intensive care, cardiovascular anesthesia and pediatric anesthesia. Anesthetic care is planned around the individual patient’s procedure and clinical needs, and the approach chosen depends on the type of operation, the patient’s age and general health, and the findings of the preoperative evaluation.
His published work reflects these areas and includes studies on venous port implantation techniques in pediatric patients, airway supporting maneuvers during flexible fiber optic bronchoscopy in children, the use of a ketamine-propofol mixture in sedation and analgesia, anesthetic management during elective cesarean section, and the treatment of pain in children with cancer using long-term epidural infusion. How Dr. Bakan works with international patients
Dr. Bakan consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. The international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, arranges appointments and organises the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options, including how anesthesia may be planned for a proposed procedure. Video consultations are available for international patients who wish to discuss their situation before traveling to İstanbul.
