Mehmet Can Şahin, MD

In trauma care, patients who have sustained injuries are evaluated and monitored so that further treatment can be organized as needed. His interest in toxicology relates to the assessment and management of patients who have been exposed to harmful substances, where careful observation and timely intervention are important. Emergency interventions form part of his daily practice whenever a patient’s condition requires prompt medical action.

A further part of his work concerns environmental emergencies. These include drowning and acute hypoxia, in which the body’s oxygen supply is critically reduced; airway obstruction, which may require prompt intervention to secure breathing; and bee stings and tick bites, which in some patients can lead to reactions or complications that require medical assessment and observation. In all of these situations, the emphasis is on recognizing the urgency of the condition, stabilizing the patient, and arranging appropriate follow-up care in the hospital.

How Dr. Şahin works with international patients

Dr. Şahin consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior medical reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and current symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination, and a discussion of the possible options.
