Melih Ömür, MD is an otorhinolaryngology (ear, nose and throat) specialist at Acibadem Fulya Hospital in İstanbul, where he works within the Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) unit with a subspecialty focus on sleep disorders. Dr. Ömür graduated from İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 1983 and completed his compulsory service in Muğla Merkez between 1983 and 1987. From 1987 to 1989 he was an assistant physician in the ENT department of Okmeydanı SSK Hospital. Between 1991 and 1995 he trained at Budapeşte Uzsoki Hospital, and in 1995 he completed his training in Ear, Nose and Throat Diseases at İstanbul Beyoğlu Training and Research Hospital. He then served at Marmaris State Hospital from 1996 to 2000 as an ENT specialist and as deputy chief physician, followed by positions as an ENT specialist at Marmaris Private Caria Hospital (2002–2004) and as an ENT physician at İstanbul JFK Hospital (2004–2005). From 2005 to 2016 he practiced as a specialist physician at Me&Di Ear, Nose and Throat Diseases Center. He has been part of Acıbadem Healthcare Services since 2010.

Clinical focus

A central part of Dr. Ömür’s practice is the assessment of sleep disorders and snoring. Patients who are disturbed by loud snoring, interrupted breathing at night or unrefreshing sleep are evaluated for possible ear, nose and throat causes, including nasal obstruction and enlarged adenoids. Where a deviated nasal septum contributes to breathing difficulty, he assesses whether septoplasty may be an appropriate option, and he discusses the expected course of treatment with each patient before any decision is made.

Dr. Ömür also sees patients with dizziness and vertigo, in whom the inner ear and the balance system are examined to help clarify the origin of the symptoms and to guide further management. In addition, he evaluates hoarseness and other changes in the voice, looking for conditions of the larynx and vocal cords that may require observation, medical treatment or further investigation. In every case, recommendations depend on the individual patient’s history, examination findings and previous treatment.

How Dr. Ömür works with international patients

Dr. Ömür consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. The international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options.
