Prof. Dr. Merve Gürsoy Bulut

Prof. Dr. Merve Gürsoy Bulut is a radiologist at Acibadem Kent Hospital (Izmir) in İzmir, where she works within the Radiology unit. Her clinical interests center on breast imaging and diagnostic radiology. Her areas of focus include mammography, magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasound imaging and virtual angiography, together with the imaging evaluation of breast conditions such as breast cysts, mastitis and breast cancer. Dr. Bulut graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 2009 and completed her specialty training in radiology at İzmir Katip Çelebi University Faculty of Medicine in 2014. She holds the academic title of professor. In 2025 she joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services, and she currently practices in İzmir.

Clinical focus

Dr. Bulut’s work is directed at breast disease imaging. She performs and interprets mammography, magnetic resonance imaging of the breast and ultrasound imaging, and she is involved in the imaging assessment of patients with suspected or confirmed breast cancer. Imaging findings are reviewed in the context of the patient’s history and clinical examination, and further studies may be recommended when the initial findings are inconclusive.

Her practice also covers benign breast conditions. Breast cysts and mastitis are evaluated with imaging methods appropriate to the clinical question, most often ultrasound imaging, and, where indicated, mammography or magnetic resonance imaging. In addition to breast imaging, her areas of expertise include virtual angiography, a non-invasive imaging approach to the visualization of blood vessels. The choice of imaging method depends on the individual patient’s symptoms, age, prior examinations and the clinical information available.

How Dr. Bulut works with international patients

Dr. Bulut speaks Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as previous mammography, ultrasound or MRI reports, laboratory and pathology results and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the imaging options that may be appropriate. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their imaging findings or questions before or after traveling; a remote discussion can help clarify which examinations may be useful, although a final assessment usually depends on the direct review of imaging studies.
