Prof. Metin Türkmen, MD

Prof. Metin Türkmen, MD is a specialist in Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology at Acibadem Altunizade Hospital in İstanbul, where he works within the Orthopedics & Joint Center. Dr. Türkmen graduated from İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1975 and completed his Orthopedics and Traumatology training at the same faculty in 1979. From 1975 to 1984 he worked as an Assistant and Chief Assistant in the İstanbul University Faculty of Medicine Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology. Between 1984 and 1988 he served as Deputy Clinic Chief at Şişli Hamidiye Etfal Training and Research Hospital, and he became an Associate Professor in 1986. He was Clinic Chief at Haydarpaşa Numune Training and Research Hospital from 1988 to 2001. In 2001 he was appointed Professor at Maltepe University Faculty of Medicine, where he served as Head of the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology and Dean until 2004. He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2004 and has been a Faculty Member of the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology at Acıbadem Mehmet Ali Aydınlar University since 2007. He is a member of the Artroplasti Association, the Pediatric Orthopedics Association, the Society İntenational Chirurgie Orthopaedics et Traumatology, the Turkish Orthopedics and Traumatology Association and the Turkish Medical Association. His published work includes articles on capitellar cartilage injuries concomitant with radial head fractures, oxygen radicals and nitric oxide levels in chondral or meniscal lesions, bilateral anterior shoulder dislocation in a weight lifter, and isolated bone tuberculosis of the talus.

Clinical focus

Dr. Türkmen evaluates and treats osteoarthritis and other forms of joint degeneration, including hip replacement surgery and knee replacement surgery where these are considered appropriate. In sports medicine and sports traumatology, his work includes knee and joint injuries such as meniscus tears and cruciate ligament tears. He also performs foot and ankle surgery.

In pediatric orthopedics, his areas of expertise include movement disorder treatment and spasticity in children. Treatment decisions in these areas depend on the individual assessment of each patient, including age, symptoms, imaging findings and any prior treatment.
