Prof. Muazzez Çevik, MD

Prof. Muazzez Çevik, MD is a pediatric surgeon who practices at Acibadem Atakent Hospital and Acibadem Bakirkoy Hospital in İstanbul, where she works in the Pediatric Surgery unit. Her subspecialty is digestive system diseases and surgery in children, and she has more than 33 years of experience in medicine. She holds the academic title of professor and is a member of the Turkish Medical Association and the Turkish Pediatric Surgery Association.

Dr. Çevik graduated from Dicle University Faculty of Medicine in 1993. From 1997 to 2003 she worked as a research assistant in the Pediatric Surgery Clinic of Şişli Etfal Training and Research Hospital, completing her pediatric surgery training there in 2003. She then served as a specialist doctor in the Pediatric Surgery Service of Şanlıurfa Training and Research Hospital from 2003 to 2008 and of Derince Training and Research Hospital from 2008 to 2009. In 2009 she was appointed Assistant Associate Professor at Harran University Faculty of Medicine, and in 2014 she became Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatric Surgery at Acıbadem University Faculty of Medicine. Her published work includes studies on intussusception reduction in children, penetrating chest and abdominal trauma, blunt renal trauma, ovarian masses in children, pulmonary hydatid disease, and the timing of surgical treatment in pediatric Crohn’s disease.

Clinical focus

Dr. Çevik’s clinical work centers on pediatric surgery, with a particular focus on the digestive system. Her areas of expertise include Hirschsprung disease, pediatric digestive system surgery, and pediatric appendicitis. She also treats abdominal wall conditions in children, including pediatric hernia and umbilical hernia.

A further part of her practice involves conditions of the genital and inguinal region in children. These include undescended testicle, hypospadias, hydrocele, spermatic cord cyst, and labial adhesions. She also performs circumcision. The choice of assessment and treatment depends on the individual child’s condition, age, and findings, and is discussed with the family during consultation.

How Dr. Çevik works with international patients

Dr. Çevik consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for families who speak other languages. Before a visit, the international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as ultrasound, MRI, CT or X-ray reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the child’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination, and a discussion of the possible options.
