Mukhtar Shahgaldıyev, MD

Mukhtar Shahgaldıyev, MD is a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation specialist at Acibadem Atakent Hospital in İstanbul. Earlier in his career he trained at Xazar Clinic (Bakü/Azerbaycan), first as a general surgery intern from 2015 to 2018 and then as a general surgery resident in 2018–2019, and he completed an internship in anesthesia and intensive care at Azerbaijan Medical University TTK in 2014–2015. He is a member of the Turkish Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Association (TFTR), the Turkish Association of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Specialist Physicians, the Pediatric Rehabilitation Association, The International Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (ISPRM), and The European Society of PRM (ESPRM).

Clinical focus

Dr. Shahgaldıyev’s clinical work centers on spine health and musculoskeletal pain. He evaluates and treats patients with low back pain, neck pain, back pain, and disc herniation, as well as frozen shoulder syndrome. His practice also includes pain management for persistent or long-standing pain, including chronic muscle pain and fibromyalgia.

In addition, he provides rehabilitation for patients with Parkinson’s disease and treatment for lymphedema. In physical medicine and rehabilitation, care is generally directed at addressing pain, maintaining or improving function, and supporting daily activities. The specific plan depends on the individual assessment, the underlying condition, and any treatments the patient has already received, and the options are discussed with the patient after this evaluation.

How Dr. Shahgaldıyev works with international patients

Dr. Shahgaldıyev consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before the visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges the appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination, and a discussion of the possible options. Video consultation is available for international patients, for example to discuss existing reports and questions before a planned visit; an in-person examination may still be needed depending on the condition.
