Prof. Murat Kılıç, MD

Prof. Murat Kılıç, MD is a General Surgery specialist at Acibadem Kent Hospital (Izmir), where he works in the General Surgery unit. Clinical focus

The core of Dr. Kılıç’s work is hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery. He evaluates and treats patients with liver diseases, including fatty liver disease, cirrhosis and liver failure. Patients with advanced liver disease may be assessed for liver transplantation, where the indication, the timing and the individual risks are reviewed together with the patient and, where relevant, the referring physician. Whether a transplant or another approach is appropriate depends on the stage of the disease, the patient’s general condition and the findings of the preoperative work-up.

Dr. Kılıç also manages cancers of the hepatobiliary system, including liver cancer and gallbladder and bile duct cancers. Benign biliary tract diseases form another part of his practice, in particular cholecystitis and other conditions of the gallbladder and bile ducts. In addition, he treats pancreatic diseases that require surgical assessment. For each patient, the decision on whether surgery is indicated, and which type of operation is suitable, is made after a careful review of the clinical history, laboratory results and imaging. Not every patient who is referred will be a candidate for an operation, and in some cases non-surgical management or further diagnostic steps may be recommended instead.

How Dr. Kılıç works with international patients

Dr. Kılıç consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, for example MRI, CT or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the available options. Video consultations are available for international patients who wish to review their situation with Dr. Kılıç before deciding whether to travel to İzmir; a video consultation can help clarify which documents are needed and whether an in-person assessment is advisable, but it does not replace a clinical examination.
