Prof. Dr. M. Sinan Ersin

Prof. Dr. M. Sinan Ersin is a general surgeon at Acibadem Kent Hospital (Izmir) in İzmir, where he works in the General Surgery unit with a subspecialty in Robotic Surgery. His clinical work covers robotic surgery, gastrointestinal and colorectal surgery, umbilical and inguinal hernia, oncological surgery, oesophageal surgery, reflux surgery and cholecystitis. He has been part of Acıbadem Healthcare Services since 2015 and has spent more than 51 years in medicine.

Dr. Ersin attended Galatasaray High School from 1975 to 1983 and graduated from Uludağ University Faculty of Medicine in 1989. He completed General Surgery training at Ege University Faculty of Medicine in 1990. His academic career continued at the Ege University Faculty of Medicine Department of General Surgery, where he worked as a specialist physician from 1995 to 2000, as an associate professor from 2000 to 2006 and as a professor from 2006. In 1998 he obtained the Diplome d’Universite de Chirurgie Viscerale Laparoscopique from Université Louis Pasteur Strasbourg I. Between 2019 and 2021 he also studied Healthcare Management at Anadolu University Open Education Faculty.

Clinical focus

Dr. Ersin’s practice centres on surgery of the digestive tract. This includes gastrointestinal and colorectal surgery, oncological surgery, oesophageal surgery and surgery for reflux, as well as repair of umbilical and inguinal hernias. He treats cholecystitis and applies robotic and laparoscopic techniques where they are considered appropriate for the individual patient. His published work addresses topics such as laparoscopic surgery for stomach cancer, complications of gastric and laparoscopic surgery, outcomes in hiatal hernia repair, diagnostic laparoscopy in penetrating abdominal trauma and perioperative nutrition support. Which approach is suitable depends on the diagnosis, previous treatments and the patient’s overall condition, and is decided after clinical assessment.

He is active in several professional bodies. He is Chairman of the Board of the Stomach and Esophageal Surgery Association – MÖCED (2023 -) and served as Chairman of the Board of the Aegean Region Surgery Association (2021 – 2023), as a Board Member of the Endoscopic Laparoscopic Surgery Association – ELCD (2008 – 2014) and as a Board Member of the Clinical Enteral Parenteral Nutrition Association – KEPAN (2013 – 2015). He is also a member of the European Hernia Society – EHS, the Hernia Association, the International Gastric Cancer Association – IGCA, the European Association for Endoscopic Surgery – EAES, the Turkish Surgery Association – TCD and the European Society of Enteral and Parenteral Nutrition – ESPEN.

Dr. Ersin speaks Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages.
