Assoc. Prof. Mustafa Özbayrak, MD

Assoc. Prof. Mustafa Özbayrak, MD is a radiology specialist at Acibadem Kartal Hospital in İstanbul, where he works in the Radiology unit with a subspecialty focus on Interventional Radiology. Clinical focus

In diagnostic radiology, Dr. Özbayrak’s areas of expertise include mammography and the imaging assessment of breast diseases, ultrasound imaging, computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). He also works with scintigraphy and with CT-based techniques such as virtual angiography, which uses CT data to visualize blood vessels without a catheter, and multidetector CT colonography, also known as virtual colonoscopy, a CT examination of the large bowel. The choice of imaging method depends on the clinical question, the patient’s history and any previous examinations, and findings are interpreted in the context of the overall clinical picture and discussed with the referring physicians.

In interventional radiology, his areas of expertise include transarterial radioembolization (TARE), an image-guided procedure in which small radioactive particles are delivered through a catheter into the arteries supplying a tumor. Interventional radiology procedures are performed under imaging guidance through small access points rather than open surgery, and patients are informed about the steps of the procedure, the preparation required and any follow-up imaging. Whether TARE or another image-guided procedure is appropriate for a particular patient is assessed individually, based on imaging findings, laboratory results and the overall treatment plan, and is generally decided in coordination with the other specialists involved in the patient’s care.

How Dr. Özbayrak works with international patients

Dr. Özbayrak speaks Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages.
