Assoc. Prof. Mustafa Seçkin, MD

Assoc. Prof. Mustafa Seçkin, MD is a neurologist at Acibadem Kent Hospital (Izmir), where he works in the Neurology unit. His subspecialty areas are dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and aging, and the treatment of movement disorders. He holds the academic title of Associate Professor in the Department of Neurology at Acıbadem Mehmet Ali Aydınlar University Faculty of Medicine and has more than 25 years in medicine.

Dr. Seçkin graduated from Cumhuriyet University Faculty of Medicine in 2004 and completed his neurology residency at Atatürk Training and Research Hospital in İzmir between 2005 and 2011. During this period he also completed doctoral education at Ege University Faculty of Letters, Department of Philosophy (2007–2009), and spent time in 2010 as a visiting researcher at the Brain and Creativity Institute, University of Southern California, Los Angeles. From 2013 to 2015 he worked at the Cognitive Neurology and Alzheimer`s Disease Center, Northwestern University, Chicago. He later held a Marie-Curie Fellowship in the Behavioral Neurology and Movement Disorders Unit of İstanbul Faculty of Medicine (2016–2017), worked at Bezmialem Vakıf University Department of Neurology (2017–2018), and from 2018 to 2019 was part of the Cognitive Neurology Working Group at Klinikum der Universität München and the Clinical Linguistics and Speech Pathology Program at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München. Between 2019 and 2024 he practiced at Acıbadem Taksim Hospital in İstanbul, and in 2024–2025 he worked at İstanbul Sağlık ve Teknoloji University Faculty of Medicine and the Sevgi Hospitals Group in Balıkesir. He is a member of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN), the European Academy of Neurology (EAN), the World Federation of Neurology, Dementia, Aphasia and Cognitive Disorders Study Group, the Turkish Neurology Association Dementia and Behavioral Neurology Study Group, and the Türkiye Alzheimer Association, among others.

Clinical focus

Dr. Seçkin’s clinical work centers on cognitive and aging-related neurological conditions, including dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, memory loss and other ageing-related neurological conditions. He also evaluates and treats Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders, and his practice includes brain pacemaker therapy for suitable patients.

A further area of his practice is migraine, where he applies advanced migraine treatment protocols, including migraine vaccines and biological agents. Whether a given approach is appropriate depends on the individual patient’s history, examination findings and previous treatments.

How Dr. Seçkin works with international patients

Dr. Seçkin consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages. The international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI or CT reports, laboratory results and discharge summaries, arranges appointments and organizes the hospital visit in İzmir. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options.
