Prof. Nesliar Eser Kutsal, MD

Prof. Nesliar Eser Kutsal, MD is a gastroenterologist at Acibadem Altunizade Hospital in İstanbul, where she works in the Gastroenterology unit. Dr. Kutsal graduated from Anadolu University Faculty of Medicine in 1986. She completed her Internal Medicine training at Anadolu University Faculty of Medicine in 1993 and her Gastroenterology training at Osmangazi University Faculty of Medicine in 1997. Between 1993 and 1994 she worked at Osmangazi Ün. Faculty of Medicine, and she joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2004. She is a member of the TURKISH GASTROENTEROLOGY ASSOCIATION, the ASSOCIATION FOR THE FIGHT AGAINST VIRAL HEPATITIS and the ANATOLIAN CARDIOLOGY ASSOCIATION. Her published work includes an article on tuberculous peritonitis of the wet ascitic type and the diagnostic value of image-guided peritoneal biopsy, a report on the resolution of immune thrombocytopenic purpura after colectomy for ulcerative colitis, and a book chapter on alcoholic liver disease.

Clinical focus

Endoscopy is a central part of Dr. Kutsal’s practice. Endoscopic examination allows the digestive tract to be inspected directly and, where appropriate, tissue samples to be taken. It is used both to investigate symptoms and to follow up known conditions. Whether an endoscopic procedure is advisable, and which type, depends on the patient’s history, symptoms and any previous findings, and this is discussed with the patient beforehand.

Dr. Kutsal also sees patients with obesity from a gastroenterology perspective, as well as patients with pelvic pain and functional gastrointestinal disorders. Functional disorders are conditions in which symptoms such as pain, bloating or altered bowel habit occur without a structural abnormality being identified on standard tests. Assessment typically involves careful history-taking and, where needed, tests to exclude other causes before a management plan is discussed. Treatment options and their suitability vary from person to person and are reviewed individually, taking into account the patient’s overall health and any treatment already received.

How Dr. Kutsal works with international patients

Dr. Kutsal consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages.
