Prof. Dr. Okan Kuzhan

Prof. Dr. Okan Kuzhan is a medical oncologist in the Medical Oncology Department at Acibadem Kozyatagi Hospital in İstanbul. With more than 33 years in medicine, his clinical work covers a broad range of solid tumors and lymphoma, including lung and thoracic cancers, brain tumors, and cancers of the stomach, colon, rectum, breast, ovary, uterus and prostate. His approach centers on medical oncology care adapted to each patient’s diagnosis and treatment needs.

Dr. Kuzhan graduated from the Gülhane Military Medical Academy Faculty of Medicine in 1993. Between 1994 and 1996 he served with the Republic of Türkiye Naval Forces Command, Battery Factory. He completed his Internal Medicine training at Gülhane Military Medical Academy in 2000 and his Medical Oncology training at the same institution in 2004, and he became an Associate Professor at the Gülhane Military Medical Academy Military Faculty of Medicine in 2009. From 2005 to 2012 he worked in the GATA Department of Medical Oncology, and in 2014 he joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services. He is a member of the Medical Oncology Association and its Supportive Therapies Working Group, the Turkish Hematology Association, the European Society of Medical Oncology and the Antalya Breast Diseases Association.

Clinical focus

Dr. Kuzhan’s practice includes the medical oncology management of lung and other thoracic cancers as well as brain tumors and lymphoma. In gastrointestinal oncology, he sees patients with stomach cancer and colorectal cancer, including colon cancer and rectal cancer.

He also cares for patients with breast cancer, gynecological cancers such as ovarian cancer and uterine cancer, and prostate cancer. The choice of medical treatment in each case depends on the tumor type, its stage, the findings of the diagnostic work-up and the patient’s overall condition, and is discussed with the patient after the relevant reports and imaging have been reviewed.

How Dr. Kuzhan works with international patients

Dr. Kuzhan consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, arranges appointments and organises the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their case before deciding whether to travel.
