Assoc. Prof. Dr. Omar Yusef Kudsı

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Omar Yusef Kudsı is a general surgery specialist in the General Surgery unit at Acibadem Altunizade Hospital in İstanbul. His clinical work centers on minimally invasive surgery, bariatric surgery, hernia surgery, gastrointestinal surgery and robotic surgery. He has more than 22 years of experience in medicine.

Dr. Kudsı graduated from Halep University Faculty of Medicine in 2004. He then completed a postdoctoral research fellowship in tissue engineering at Brigham & Womens Hospital, Harvard Med. Sch. (2005–2006), followed by a general surgery residency at Thomas Jefferson University, Lankenau Medical Center (2006–2011). From 2011 to 2012 he was a clinical fellow and instructor of surgery in minimally invasive surgery and bariatric surgery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School. During the same period he earned a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) at Drexel University, LeBow College of Business. He subsequently held academic and clinical positions at Tufts University School of Medicine and Good Samaritan Medical Center, including Assistant Professor of surgery (2014), head of the surgery clinic and chief surgeon at Good Samaritan Medical Center (2019) and Associate Professor at Tufts University School of Medicine (2020). In 2023 he received the title of Prof. Dr. at Rutgers Medical School, Newark, NJ, USA. He is a member of the American Hernia Society, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, the Society of Robotic Surgery, the American Society for Metabolic Bariatric Surgery, The Society for Surgery the Alimentary Tract and the Massachusetts Chapter of the American College of Surgeons.

Clinical focus

Dr. Kudsı’s practice covers surgical conditions of the abdominal wall and gastrointestinal tract, with an emphasis on minimally invasive and robotic techniques. His areas of expertise include bariatric surgery, hernia surgery, including inguinal, ventral and incisional hernia repair, and gastrointestinal surgery. Which surgical approach is appropriate depends on the individual diagnosis, the patient’s overall health and prior surgical history, and is decided after clinical assessment.

His published research, largely appearing in 2023 and 2024, addresses robotic incisional and ventral hernia repair, robotic-assisted inguinal hernia repair, robotic cholecystectomy in elderly and morbidly obese patients, learning curves in single-site and multiport robotic cholecystectomy, and structured resident training in robotic surgery.

How Dr. Kudsı works with international patients

Dr. Kudsı consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior medical reports and imaging, arranges appointments and organizes the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the possible options. Video consultation is available for international patients, which may be used for an initial review of records before travel or for follow-up questions after treatment.
