Assoc. Prof. Özge Vural Topuz, MD

Assoc. Prof. Özge Vural Topuz, MD is a Nuclear Medicine specialist at Acibadem Maslak Hospital in İstanbul, where she practices within the Nuclear Medicine unit. Dr. Topuz graduated from İstanbul Bilim University Faculty of Medicine in 2006 and completed her Nuclear Medicine specialty training at İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 2011. From 2011 to 2020 she worked as a Nuclear Medicine Specialist at University of Health Sciences Okmeydanı Training and Research Hospital. Between 2020 and 2024 she practiced at Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Health Çam ve Sakura City Hospital. In 2024 she joined Health Sciences University, Hamidiye Faculty of Medicine Nuclear Medicine Department and Acıbadem Healthcare Services. Her published research includes studies on 18F-FDG PET/CT in locally advanced breast cancer, colorectal cancer and endometrial cancer, Ga-68 PSMA PET in prostate cancer, PSMA PET quantification and radiomic analysis, molecular imaging in GIST and primary peritoneal tumors, and case reports on differentiated thyroid carcinoma with liver metastases and on SPECT/CT findings.

Clinical focus

Dr. Topuz performs and interprets nuclear medicine imaging studies. Her areas of expertise include PET, SPECT and scintigraphy, as well as two specific scintigraphic examinations: brain scintigraphy and myocardial perfusion scintigraphy. These functional imaging methods are used to assess how organs and tissues are working and can support diagnosis, staging and treatment planning when used alongside other clinical and imaging information.

In addition to imaging, Dr. Topuz provides radioiodine treatment, a form of nuclear medicine therapy. Her research interests reflect her clinical work in oncologic imaging: her publications address 18F-FDG PET/CT parameters in patients with endometrial cancer and other tumors, and PSMA PET in patients with prostate cancer, including early response after 177Lu-PSMA radioligand therapy. Whether a given examination or treatment is appropriate depends on each patient’s individual clinical situation and is determined after review of the medical history and existing findings.

How Dr. Topuz works with international patients

Dr. Topuz communicates in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, arranges appointments and organizes the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the available options, including which nuclear medicine studies or treatments may be relevant.
