Prof. Remzi Tözün, MD

Prof. Remzi Tözün, MD is an Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology specialist at Acibadem Maslak Hospital in İstanbul, where he works within the Orthopedics & Joint Center. His practice is centered on hip and knee replacement surgery and on robotic surgery, and he has spent more than 52 years in medicine.

Dr. Tözün graduated from İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1974 and completed his Orthopedics and Traumatology training at the same faculty in 1979. He has been part of Acıbadem Healthcare Services since 2002. He is a member of the Artroplasti Association, the Knee Surgery Association and the SICOT American Academy Of Orthophedic Society.

Clinical focus

Dr. Tözün evaluates and treats joint diseases of the hip and knee, with a particular focus on osteoarthritis. When a joint has been damaged to the point that pain and loss of function persist despite other measures, he assesses whether joint replacement is an appropriate option for the individual patient. His surgical work includes hip replacement surgery, knee replacement surgery and knee prosthesis surgery.

Robotic surgery forms a second subspecialty area of his practice and is applied within his joint replacement work. Whether a robotic-assisted approach, a conventional technique or a non-surgical path is considered depends on the patient’s condition, imaging findings and overall health. Each recommendation is made after a review of the individual case, and the possible benefits and limitations of the options are discussed with the patient before any decision is taken.

How Dr. Tözün works with international patients

Dr. Tözün consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. The Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, arranges appointments and organizes the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options. For patients who are not yet able to travel, a video consultation with Dr. Tözün is available; this allows an initial review of the case and a discussion of possible next steps, while any final treatment decision generally requires an in-person examination. Patients who have already undergone treatment elsewhere may also be seen for a second opinion or for follow-up planning.
