Prof. Dr. Sabahattin Umman

Prof. Dr. Sabahattin Umman is a cardiologist at Acibadem International Hospital in İstanbul, where he sees patients in the Cardiology Department. Dr. Umman completed his medical education at İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine, graduating in 1978. He then trained in Internal Medicine at the same faculty, completing that training in 1987, before going on to specialize in Cardiology, which he completed at İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1997. A substantial part of Dr. Umman’s practice concerns blood pressure and blood lipid disorders. He evaluates and manages hypertension (high blood pressure) as well as hypotension (low blood pressure), both of which may require careful history-taking, measurement, and, where indicated, further cardiovascular assessment. He also manages hyperlipidemia, in which elevated blood lipid levels are assessed in the context of the patient’s overall cardiovascular risk and existing medical conditions.

Dr. Umman additionally assesses heart murmurs, which may be detected during a clinical examination and can prompt further evaluation to clarify their cause and significance. He carries out pacemaker assessment for patients who have an implanted device or for whom the question of a pacemaker has been raised, and he performs angiography as part of the diagnostic evaluation of the heart and its vessels. Dr. Umman consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages.
