Prof. Dr. Safa Gürsoy

Prof. Dr. Safa Gürsoy is an Orthopedic Surgery & Traumatology specialist at Acibadem Atasehir Hospital in İstanbul, where he practices within the Orthopedics & Joint Center. His subspecialties are Shoulder and Elbow Surgery and Hip and Knee Replacement Surgery, and he has more than 19 years in medicine. In 2020 he earned a PhD through the Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University – Health Sciences Institute – Musculoskeletal System and Regenerative Medicine Doctoral Program, and from 2017 to 2022 he was a Faculty Member of the Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology. He is an Associate Member of The Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA), a Board Member of the Federation Of Orthopaedic Trainees in Europe (FORTE), a Former President of the TOTBİD Assistant and Young Specialist Physicians Council (TOTBID-AGUH), and a member of the Turkish Orthopedics and Traumatology Association, the Hip Joint Preservation Surgery Association, the Turkish Bone and Joint Surgery Association, and the Turkish Sports Injuries Arthroscopy and Knee Surgery Association.

Clinical focus

Dr. Gürsoy’s clinical work centers on sports medicine and sports traumatology, including knee and joint injuries, meniscus tears, and cruciate ligament tears. He also treats osteoarthritis and other joint diseases, and his surgical practice includes shoulder surgery and elbow surgery. In joint replacement, he performs hip replacement surgery and knee replacement surgery.

He has co-authored research in The American Journal of Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy, Arthroscopy Techniques, and the Orthopaedic Journal of Sports Medicine, on topics such as medial meniscus posterior horn root repair, tibial tunnel placement for meniscal root repair during cruciate ligament reconstruction, recovery patterns after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, intra-articular injections for knee osteoarthritis, microfracture treatment of focal chondral lesions in the knee, and hip arthroscopy techniques including labral reconstruction and correction of cam deformities.

How Dr. Gürsoy works with international patients

Dr. Gürsoy consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages. The Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, arranges appointments, and organizes the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination, and a discussion of the available options.
