Prof. Dr. Samet Yardımcı

Prof. Dr. Samet Yardımcı is a General Surgery specialist at Acibadem Kartal Hospital in İstanbul, where he works within the Bariatric & Metabolic Surgery and General Surgery units. Dr. Yardımcı graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 2003 and completed his General Surgery residency at Haydarpaşa Numune Training and Research Hospital between 2003 and 2008. In 2008 he was an observer physician at MD Anderson Cancer Center and Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, USA. He then undertook subspecialty training in Gastroenterological Surgery at Ankara Türkiye Yüksek İhtisas Training and Research Hospital, working as a subspecialty resident from 2008 to 2012. From 2012 to 2017 he was a specialist in Gastroenterological Surgery at Marmara University Pendik EAH, and in 2017 he was appointed Associate Professor at Marmara University Faculty of Medicine. Between 2018 and 2022 he worked at Medical Park Pendik Hospital as an Associate Professor, and in 2022 he became a Professor at İstinye University Faculty of Medicine, where he remained until 2024. He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2025. He is a member of the International Association of Surgeons Gastroenterologists and Oncologists (IASGO), the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO), the Endoscopic Laparoscopic Surgeons of Asia (ELSA), the Turkish Surgical Association, the Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery Association, the Turkish Obesity Surgery Association, the Gastroenterological Surgery Association and the Turkish Hepato Pancreato Biliary Surgery Association.

Clinical focus

Within hepatopancreatobiliary and digestive surgery, Dr. Yardımcı assesses and treats pancreatic, liver and biliary tract diseases, including cholecystitis, as well as gastrointestinal oncology. His colorectal work includes colorectal cancers, colorectal surgery and the surgical treatment of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. He also treats hemorrhoids, anal fissure and other anorectal diseases, and performs reflux surgery and endocrine surgery.

In the field of obesity surgery, his procedures include gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy. Whether a surgical approach is appropriate, and which procedure is considered, depends on the individual patient’s diagnosis, overall health and surgical needs, and is discussed during consultation.

How Dr. Yardımcı works with international patients

Dr. Yardımcı consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages. The Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, arranges appointments and organizes the hospital visit.
