Assoc. Prof. Selim Aydın, MD

Assoc. Prof. Selim Aydın, MD is a cardiovascular surgeon who sees patients at Acibadem Atakent Hospital and Acibadem Atasehir Hospital in İstanbul. His practice covers cardiovascular surgery and vascular surgery, including varicose vein treatment, aortic aneurysm, and peripheral vascular occlusion. Dr. Aydın graduated from İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine in 2004 and completed his specialty training in cardiovascular surgery at Dr. Siyami Ersek Thoracic, Cardiovascular Surgery Training and Research Hospital in 2012. He was an observer at the Department of Cardiac Surgery, Heidelberg University, Germany, and completed advanced surgical training at the European School of Cardiac Surgery, Bergamo, Italy. His published work includes studies on endovenous cyanoacrylate closure for chronic venous insufficiency, endophlebectomy of the common femoral vein with endovascular iliac vein recanalization for chronic iliofemoral venous occlusion, and the combined use of atherectomy and drug-coated balloon for femoropopliteal artery disease.

Clinical focus

Dr. Aydın’s clinical work centers on the surgical and vascular management of conditions affecting the heart and blood vessels. He treats patients with aortic aneurysm, a condition in which a section of the aorta becomes enlarged and may require monitoring or repair depending on its size, location, and the patient’s overall health. He also cares for patients with peripheral vascular occlusion, in which narrowed or blocked arteries reduce blood flow to the limbs; his publications include work on endovascular approaches to femoropopliteal artery disease.

In venous disease, Dr. Aydın provides varicose vein treatment and has published on endovenous closure for chronic venous insufficiency and on procedures for chronic iliofemoral venous occlusion. His cardiac surgical publications include minimally invasive ventricular septal defect closure via right lateral minithoracotomy and pulmonary valve-sparing techniques in tetralogy of Fallot repair. The choice between open surgical, endovascular, or conservative management is made individually, based on the patient’s diagnosis, imaging findings, symptoms, and general condition.
