Prof. Dr. Sinan Karaoğlu

Prof. Dr. Sinan Karaoğlu is an Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology specialist at Acibadem Kayseri Hospital in Kayseri, where he works in the Orthopedics & Joint Center. His subspecialty areas are foot and ankle surgery, hip and knee replacement surgery, and pediatric orthopedics. With more than 38 years in medicine, his career has combined hospital practice, academic work and team-doctor roles in sports.

Dr. Karaoğlu graduated from Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Medicine in 1988 and completed his orthopedics and traumatology training at Erciyes University Faculty of Medicine in 1993. From 1994 to 1996 he worked at Amasya Devlet Hospital, and in 1997 he spent time at Justus Liebig University, Giessen, Germany, and Universitatsklinikum Erlangen, Germany. Between 2005 and 2007 he carried out musculoskeletal research at the University of Pittsburgh in the United States. In 2007 he became a professor in the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology at Erciyes University Faculty of Medicine and also worked at Barcelona University, Hospital Del Mar, Department of Orthopedics, Sports Trauma. He has served as team doctor for Amasyaspor Football Team (1994–1997), the Turkish National Judo Team (2001) and Erciyesspor Football Team (2007–2009). He later practiced at Kayseri Özel Dünyam Hospital (2011–2014) and Kayseri Memorial Hospital (2014–2016) before joining Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2016. He is a member of the Turkish Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology (TOTBİD) and the European Society of Sports Troumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy (ESSKA), a board member of the Turkish Sports Injuries Arthroscopy and Knee Surgery Association, and he holds editorial and reviewer roles with several orthopedic journals.

Clinical focus

Dr. Karaoğlu's practice covers joint, sports and reconstructive orthopedics. He treats osteoarthritis of the hip and knee and performs hip replacement surgery and knee replacement surgery. In sports medicine and sports traumatology, he manages cruciate ligament tears, meniscal tears and other knee and joint injuries. His published work includes randomized controlled trials on reducing bleeding after arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction and after bilateral total knee arthroplasty, as well as studies on knee arthroplasty design and femoral revision surgery.

He also performs foot and ankle surgery, deformity correction surgery and limb lengthening, and he sees children with orthopedic conditions within his pediatric orthopedics practice. The suitability of any surgical or non-surgical option is assessed on an individual basis after clinical examination and review of imaging.
