Şohre Gasemi, MD is a radiologist at Acibadem International Hospital in İstanbul, where she works within the Radiology unit. Clinical focus

Dr. Gasemi’s clinical work lies in diagnostic imaging rather than in treatment itself; her role is to select and interpret the examination that is appropriate for a given clinical question and to report the findings to the referring physician. Within abdominal radiology, she uses abdominal and thoracic ultrasound, CT and X-ray imaging to assess the organs of the abdomen and chest. Her work in cardiac imaging includes virtual angiography, a CT-based method of visualizing blood vessels without a catheter, and scintigraphy, which provides information on the function of organs and tissues. In breast diseases imaging, she performs and reads mammography as part of the evaluation of breast findings, and she also undertakes head and neck imaging.

Ultrasound imaging, including Doppler ultrasound for the assessment of blood flow in vessels, forms a substantial part of her daily work. Dr. Gasemi reviews each request in the context of the patient’s history and any earlier imaging, so that an examination is chosen only when it is likely to add useful information. Where several modalities could answer the same question, the choice depends on the clinical situation, the findings of previous studies and the referring physician’s needs. Her reports are intended to support the physicians who are responsible for the patient’s further management.

How Dr. Gasemi works with international patients

Dr. Gasemi consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as earlier ultrasound, CT, X-ray or MRI reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options, including which radiological examination, if any, is appropriate.
