Prof. Süda Tekin, MD

Prof. Süda Tekin, MD is a specialist in Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology at Acibadem Atasehir Hospital in İstanbul, where she works within the Infectious Diseases Department. From 2007 to 2014 she was at Harran University Faculty of Medicine, where she held the Department Chairmanship of the Department of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology. She received the title of Associate Professor in Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology in 2013. In 2014 she moved to Koç University Hospital, and in 2022 she was appointed Professor at Koç University Faculty of Medicine.

Clinical focus

A substantial part of Dr. Tekin’s practice involves lower respiratory tract infections. She evaluates and manages patients with bronchitis and pneumonia, assessing symptoms, medical history and any existing test results in order to identify the likely cause of the infection and to discuss appropriate treatment options. She also sees patients for travel health, which may include advice before travel and assessment of infections or symptoms that develop during or after a trip.

Dr. Tekin additionally manages sexually transmitted infections, including syphilis and HPV, offering assessment, testing where indicated and a discussion of treatment and follow-up. Her clinical interests further include shingles, for which she evaluates the presentation and discusses the available management options with the patient. In each of these areas, the approach is based on the individual patient’s history, clinical findings and test results, and recommendations are made accordingly.

How Dr. Tekin works with international patients

Dr. Tekin speaks Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. The Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as X-ray or CT reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options.
