Assoc. Prof. Dr. Taner Arpacı

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Taner Arpacı is a radiology specialist at Acibadem Adana Hospital in Adana, where he works in the Radiology unit. He graduated from Çukurova University Faculty of Medicine in 1999 and completed his radiology training at Mersin University Faculty of Medicine in 2005. From 2005 to 2010 he worked at Private Adana Sistem Diagnostic Center, and in 2023 he joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services. He is a member of the Turkish Radiology Association and the Türk Manyetik Rezonans Association. His published work includes case reports on arachnoid granulations in the transverse sinuses in a patient with ocular melanoma, primary paranasal sinus Ewing sarcoma with intracranial and intraorbital extension, and primary diffuse tracheobronchial amyloidosis, published in journals including J Clin Neurosci, Eur Radiology and Eur J Radiol.

Clinical focus

Dr. Arpacı’s areas of expertise span the main cross-sectional and functional imaging methods: computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasound imaging and scintigraphy. In breast imaging, he performs and interprets mammography and evaluates breast diseases. His work also includes CT colonography, sometimes referred to as virtual colonoscopy, which uses CT data to examine the large bowel, and virtual angiography, which reconstructs blood vessels from imaging data without a conventional catheter study.

In Interventional Radiology and Interventional Neuroradiology, Dr. Arpacı carries out image-guided procedures. One of the procedures listed among his areas of expertise is transarterial radioembolization (TARE), an image-guided treatment in which radioactive material is delivered through the arteries supplying a target area. Whether an interventional approach is appropriate depends on the individual clinical situation and is assessed after review of the patient’s imaging and history.

How Dr. Arpacı works with international patients

Dr. Arpacı speaks Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who prefer another language. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, for example MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination where relevant, and a discussion of the possible imaging or interventional options. For patients who are not yet able to travel, a video consultation is available so that the clinical question and available imaging can be discussed in advance. Any recommendation on further imaging or an image-guided procedure is made only after this review.
