Prof. Tansel Erol, MD

Prof. Tansel Erol, MD is a cardiologist at Acibadem Adana Hospital in Adana, where he works in the Cardiology Department. His subspecialty focus is cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, and he has more than 30 years of experience in medicine. Dr. Erol graduated from Gazi University Faculty of Medicine in 1996. He then trained as an assistant doctor at Başkent University Ankara Hospital from 1996 to 2001 and completed his cardiology specialization at Başkent University Faculty of Medicine in 2001.

After qualifying as a specialist, Dr. Erol worked at Erzurum Numune Hospital in 2002 and at Başkent University Adana Dr. Turgut Noyan Research and Application Hospital from 2002 to 2004. He served as a specialist doctor at Malatya Military Hospital from 2004 to 2005 and returned to Başkent University Adana Dr. Turgut Noyan Research and Application Hospital, where he was a specialist doctor from 2004 to 2013, an associate professor doctor from 2013 to 2022, and a professor doctor from 2022 to 2024. In 2024 he joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services.

Clinical focus

Dr. Erol evaluates and manages a range of cardiovascular conditions. His areas of expertise include coronary artery disease and heart valve diseases such as aortic stenosis, mitral regurgitation and rheumatic heart disease, as well as atrial septal defect. He also sees patients with arrhythmias, including atrial fibrillation, and patients who may need a pacemaker. Other conditions within his practice include myocarditis, hypotension and hypertension.

His clinical interests also cover diagnostic and interventional cardiology, including angiography, percutaneous coronary intervention, chronic total occlusion procedures and transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). Whether a patient is a candidate for any of these procedures is assessed on an individual basis after a review of the history, examination findings and imaging. In addition, Dr. Erol works in cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, which may form part of care for patients recovering from cardiac events or living with chronic heart and lung conditions, when appropriate.

How Dr. Erol works with international patients

Dr. Erol speaks Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as ultrasound reports including echocardiography, CT or MRI reports, X-ray reports, laboratory results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the available options. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their case with Dr. Erol before or instead of traveling.
