Asst. Prof. Tarkan İkizoğlu, MD

Asst. Prof. Tarkan İkizoğlu, MD is a pediatrician at Acibadem Maslak Hospital in İstanbul, where he practices within the Pediatrics unit. He has more than 28 years in medicine. His clinical work centers on the care of newborns, infants and children, including newborn follow-up and screening tests, well-child follow-up, and the diagnosis and treatment of common childhood conditions such as infections, iron deficiency and anemia, growth disorders and PFAPA syndrome.

Dr. İkizoğlu graduated from İstanbul University Faculty of Medicine in 1998 and completed his pediatrics training at Celal Bayar University Faculty of Medicine between 1999 and 2004. He then worked as a pediatrics specialist at Celal Bayar University Faculty of Medicine from 2004 to 2006, followed by a period at Eskişehir Asker Hospital from 2006 to 2007. In 2007 he joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services, and from 2007 to 2009 he worked in Pediatric Emergency and Intensive Care at İstanbul University Faculty of Medicine. He is a member of the Milli Pediatri Association, the Pediatric Emergency and Intensive Care Association and the Turkish Medical Association. He has co-authored publications in pediatric journals on topics including childhood vaccines, pediatric emergency medicine and intensive care terminology, parental presence during invasive procedures and resuscitation, primary pulmonary tuberculosis presenting as foreign body aspiration, and bacterial colonization of toys.

Clinical focus

Dr. İkizoğlu provides newborn follow-up, newborn screening tests and treatment of neonatal jaundice, as well as well-child follow-up for infants and older children. He evaluates and manages infant colic, lactose intolerance in infants, and iron deficiency and anemia in children. His practice also covers rickets and growth disorders in children, which are assessed in the context of the child’s age, history and examination findings.

A further area of his work is the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric infectious diseases, including upper respiratory tract infections in children. He also sees children with PFAPA syndrome, a condition characterized by recurrent episodes of fever, in whom the pattern of symptoms is reviewed to guide diagnosis and management.

How Dr. İkizoğlu works with international patients
