Asst. Prof. Tuğana Akbaş, MD

Asst. Prof. Tuğana Akbaş, MD is a radiologist working in the Radiology unit at Acibadem Adana Hospital and Acibadem Adana Orthopedia Hospital in Adana. Clinical focus

Dr. Akbaş’s areas of expertise include interventional radiology and a broad range of diagnostic imaging. She works with computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and ultrasound imaging, and her practice also includes CT colonography, virtual colonoscopy and virtual angiography. These CT-based techniques are used to visualize the colon and blood vessels in a non-invasive manner when they are appropriate for the clinical question.

Breast imaging is a further part of her work. She performs and interprets mammography and is involved in the imaging assessment of breast diseases. Where an image-guided procedure is indicated, interventional radiology may be considered as part of the diagnostic or treatment pathway. Dr. Akbaş speaks Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. The international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, arranges appointments and organises the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination where relevant and a discussion of the options. Video consultation is available for international patients, which may be used for an initial review of the clinical question and available imaging before any decision about travel or further examinations is made.
