Prof. Dr. Ufuk Kemal Gülsoy

Prof. Dr. Ufuk Kemal Gülsoy is a radiologist practicing at Acibadem Taksim Hospital in İstanbul, where he is part of the Radiology unit. His work is centered on diagnostic imaging. His clinical interests include ultrasonography, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, mammography and imaging related to breast diseases. With more than 47 years in medicine, he supports the evaluation of a range of conditions through imaging examinations, including breast imaging and cross-sectional imaging.

Dr. Gülsoy graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 1979 and completed his radiology education at Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 1984. He has been working within Acıbadem Healthcare Services since 2017. He speaks Turkish and English.

Clinical focus

Dr. Gülsoy’s clinical focus is diagnostic imaging. In ultrasonography, images are produced with sound waves and no ionizing radiation; further information about renal ultrasonography is available on this site. Computed tomography uses X-rays to produce cross-sectional images of the body, and magnetic resonance imaging uses magnetic fields and radio waves to produce detailed cross-sectional images without ionizing radiation. Dr. Gülsoy interprets these examinations as part of the diagnostic work-up requested by referring physicians. The choice of method depends on the clinical question, the region of the body under evaluation and the patient’s history, and not every patient requires every type of examination.

Breast disease imaging is a further area of his expertise. Mammography is an X-ray examination of the breast used in screening and in the assessment of symptoms, and it may be complemented by ultrasonography or magnetic resonance imaging when additional information is needed. Dr. Gülsoy reports these examinations and, where appropriate, compares them with earlier imaging to assess changes over time. Imaging findings are one component of a broader assessment, and results are interpreted together with the patient’s history, clinical examination and any other test results by the treating physicians.

How Dr. Gülsoy works with international patients

Dr. Gülsoy consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, arranges appointments and organizes the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options, including which imaging examinations, if any, may be appropriate. Video consultation is available for international patients and may be used to review existing reports and imaging and to discuss whether further examinations are needed before travel.
