Prof. Dr. Uğur Çınar

Prof. Dr. Uğur Çınar is an otorhinolaryngology specialist at Acibadem International Hospital (İstanbul), where he practices within the Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) unit. With more than 39 years in medicine, his work covers disorders of the ear, nose and throat, including hearing, balance and voice complaints, as well as surgery of the ear and throat. He has been part of Acıbadem Healthcare Services since 2007.

Dr. Çınar graduated from İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1987. He worked as a Specialist Physician at Şişli Etfal Training and Research Hospital from 1988 to 1992 and completed his specialty training in the Şişli Etfal Training and Research Hospital Department of Ear, Nose and Throat Diseases in 1992. He continued at Şişli Etfal Training and Research Hospital from 1994 to 2006, becoming an Associate Professor there in 2005. Between 2000 and 2001 he held an appointment at Harvard Medical School, Department of Otology and Laryngology Division of Laryngology, Massachusetts Eye&Ear Infirmary Boston- U.S.A. In 2016 he was appointed Professor at İstanbul Aydın University. He is a member of the Türk Otolaringoloji Association, the İstanbul Medical Chamber and the Association of Ear, Nose and Throat Head and Neck Surgery Specialists. His published work in peer-reviewed journals addresses topics such as laryngeal microsurgery, myringoplasty incision techniques, hypoglossal nerve function after suspension laryngoscopy, the effects of lateral osteotomies in rhinoplasty on the lacrimal drainage system, and tumors of the larynx and maxillary sinus.

Clinical focus

A significant part of Dr. Çınar’s practice concerns the ear and its related functions. He evaluates and treats patients with tinnitus and hearing loss, and performs inner ear surgery where it is indicated. He also sees patients with vertigo and other balance disorders, conditions in which a careful history and examination are needed to distinguish inner ear causes from other explanations before any treatment is proposed.

His throat and airway work includes the assessment of snoring, adenoids, pharyngitis and hoarseness. Surgical procedures within his expertise include tonsil surgery, for adults and children in whom the indication has been established. Whether surgery or a non-surgical approach is appropriate depends on the individual findings, and the options are discussed with the patient once the assessment is complete.

How Dr. Çınar works with international patients

Dr. Çınar consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages. The Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, arranges appointments and organises the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options.
