Ulaş Can, MD

Clinical focus

A substantial part of Dr. Can’s work involves ultrasound imaging, including abdominal ultrasound, thoracic ultrasound and Doppler ultrasound. He also interprets CT, MRI and X-ray examinations. By organ system, his areas of expertise include abdominal radiology, genitourinary radiology, musculoskeletal radiology and head and neck imaging. In oncological radiology, imaging is used to help characterize findings, support diagnosis and follow the course of disease in coordination with the treating clinicians. Within interventional radiology, Dr. Can performs image-guided procedures in which ultrasound, CT or other imaging is used to guide the intervention. Whether an interventional approach is appropriate is assessed individually, based on the clinical situation, existing imaging and discussion with the referring physician. Diagnostic imaging and interventional radiology are part of a broader care pathway, and findings are communicated to the treating team so that further management can be planned.

How Dr. Can works with international patients

Dr. Can speaks Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options, including which imaging or image-guided procedures may be appropriate. Video consultation is available for international patients, which can be used for an initial discussion of a case or a review of existing imaging before deciding whether travel for further imaging or an interventional procedure is warranted.
