Prof. Dr. Yasemin Ersoy

Prof. Dr. Yasemin Ersoy is a Clinical Laboratory specialist with a subspecialty in Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology. She practices at Acibadem Kayseri Hospital in Kayseri, where she works in the Clinical Laboratory and Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology units. Dr. Ersoy has more than 34 years in medicine, most of them spent in academic infectious diseases practice, and she joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2024.

She graduated from Erciyes University Faculty of Medicine in 1992 and completed her specialization in Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology at İnönü University Faculty of Medicine in 2000. Her academic career developed at the same institution, in the Department of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology within the Department of Internal Medicine at İnönü University Faculty of Medicine, where she served as research assistant (1995–2000), lecturer (2000–2001), assistant professor (2001–2006), associate professor (2006–2011) and professor (2011–2024). Dr. Ersoy is a member of the Hospital Infections Association, the Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases Association (KLİMİK), the Turkish Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology Specialty Association (EKMUD) and the Sepsis Çalışma Grubu-EKMUD. Her published work includes studies on the CD4/CD8 ratio in the treatment follow-up of patients with HIV, angiotensin II and angiotensin II receptor 2 levels in septic patients, bloodstream infections in critically ill COVID-19 patients (Eurobact II study), oral colonization of Acinetobacter baumannii in intensive care units, viral and atypical pathogens in patients with pneumonia, and antimicrobial susceptibility of Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae in urinary tract infections.

Clinical focus

Dr. Ersoy evaluates and treats adults with infectious conditions, combining clinical assessment with laboratory-based diagnostics. Her areas of expertise include lower respiratory tract infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia, as well as communicable diseases more broadly. She also sees patients with sexually transmitted infections, including syphilis, HIV and AIDS, and HPV, and patients with hepatitis.

A further part of her practice is preventive care, in particular adult vaccination, together with the assessment and management of shingles. Where appropriate, microbiological and laboratory testing is used to help identify the pathogen and to inform treatment decisions, and follow-up may include repeat laboratory monitoring depending on the condition.

How Dr. Ersoy works with international patients

Dr. Ersoy consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, for example laboratory and pathology results, X-ray, CT or ultrasound reports, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and organizes the hospital visit.
