Prof. Yeşim Eralp, MD

Prof. Yeşim Eralp, MD is a medical oncologist at Acibadem Maslak Hospital in İstanbul, where she sees patients in the Medical Oncology Department. She has more than 35 years in medicine. Dr. Eralp graduated from İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1991, completed her Internal Medicine training at İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 1997, and completed her Medical Oncology training at İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine in 2001.

Her professional career has been closely linked to the İstanbul University Oncology Institute. She worked there as a Medical Oncology Specialist from 2001 to 2004, and during 2001–2002 she was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. From 2004 to 2009 she served as Associate Professor of Medical Oncology at the İstanbul University Oncology Institute and the İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Medical Oncology. Between 2008 and 2010 she was a Board Member and Deputy Director Responsible for Research and Education at the Institute, and from 2010 to 2018 she continued there as a Faculty Member. In 2018–2019 she practised as a Medical Oncology Specialist at İstanbul Florence Nightingale Hospital, and in 2019 she joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services. Dr. Eralp is a member of the Societe Internationale de Senologie, the American Clinical Oncology Association, the Turkish Medical Oncology Association, the Turkish Federation of Breast Diseases, the European Medical Oncology Association and the Dünya Akciğer Kanseri Association.

Clinical focus

Dr. Eralp’s clinical work covers the medical oncology care of adults with a range of solid tumours. Her areas of expertise include head and neck cancers, among them oral cancer, tongue and base of tongue cancer and nasal tumours. She also treats patients with lung and thoracic cancers and with brain tumours.

Her practice further includes kidney cancer and adrenal gland cancer, anal cancer, and skin tumours, including malignant melanoma. As a medical oncologist, she evaluates each patient’s diagnosis and previous treatment before discussing the systemic treatment options that may be appropriate; the suitability of any approach depends on the individual case and is determined after clinical assessment.

How Dr. Eralp works with international patients

Dr. Eralp consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options.
