Clinical focus

A large part of Dr. Candaner’s practice involves teeth that have been damaged or weakened. This includes fractured teeth, which may result from trauma, wear or an existing weakness in the tooth, and enamel loss, in which the outer protective layer of the tooth becomes thinner or worn away. In these situations the first step is a careful examination of the affected tooth and its surrounding tissues, often supported by dental imaging, so that the extent of the damage can be understood before any treatment is proposed. Depending on the findings, options may include dental fillings to restore smaller areas of lost structure, or porcelain inlays and onlays, which are laboratory-made restorations used when a larger portion of the tooth needs to be rebuilt while the remaining healthy tooth is retained.

Dr. Candaner also manages root infections, where bacteria have reached the pulp or the tissues around the root. Endodontic treatment in these cases is directed at removing the infected tissue, cleaning and sealing the root canal system and then restoring the tooth. In his restorative work he uses digital CAD/CAM applications, in which the tooth is scanned digitally and the restoration is designed and manufactured with computer assistance. Which approach is appropriate depends on the individual tooth, the amount of remaining structure and the patient’s overall dental condition, and these factors are discussed with the patient before a plan is agreed.

How Dr. Candaner works with international patients

Dr. Candaner consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. The international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as dental X-rays, CT reports, previous treatment records and discharge summaries, arranges appointments and organizes the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous dental treatments, a clinical examination of the teeth and surrounding tissues, and a discussion of the possible options, including any limitations or uncertainties. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their situation before traveling, although a definitive treatment plan for restorative or endodontic care generally requires an in-person examination.
