Dora Selda Seçim, MD is a pediatrician at Acibadem Atakent Hospital in İstanbul, where she works in the Pediatrics unit. She also treats neonatal jaundice, evaluating the newborn’s bilirubin levels and general condition before deciding whether observation or treatment is appropriate.

Dr. Seçim diagnoses and treats pediatric infectious diseases, including upper respiratory tract infections in children and croup, a condition that typically causes a barking cough and noisy breathing in young children. Her assessment aims to distinguish self-limiting illnesses from those that require closer monitoring or specific treatment. In addition, she evaluates and manages constipation in children, as well as iron deficiency in children and anemia in children, where the underlying cause is investigated before dietary advice or medical treatment is discussed with the family. Throughout, she adapts her approach to the child’s age, symptoms and history.

How Dr. Seçim works with international patients

Dr. Seçim consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for families who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as laboratory results, growth records, ultrasound or X-ray reports, previous prescriptions and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit itself. A first consultation typically covers the child’s history and current symptoms, a review of existing test results and any previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the possible next steps with the parents. For families who are not yet in İstanbul, video consultations are available so that an initial assessment or a follow-up conversation can take place remotely; whether a video consultation is suitable depends on the child’s condition and on the information already available.
