Sena Sivri, Clinical Psychologist

Sena Sivri is a specialist psychologist working in the Psychiatry & Psychology unit at Acibadem Taksim Hospital, Acibadem Fulya Hospital and Acibadem Etiler Outpatient Clinic in İstanbul. She has more than 18 years of experience in the field of psychology. Her professional path began in 2008, when she took up a position as Assistant Psychologist at Memorial Okmeydani Hospital, where she worked until 2010. From 2010 to 2011 she worked at Gizli Bahce Children’s House. In 2012 she joined the healthcare group to which these three İstanbul facilities belong, and she has practiced within it since then.

Her academic training was completed at Istanbul Commerce University, where she studied Applied Psychology and obtained a Master’s Degree in Applied Psychology in 2019. In the same year she completed training in the Schema Therapy Model and Techniques through Psikonet / ISST. This combination of academic study and therapy-specific training forms the basis of her current clinical work with adults who present with a range of psychological concerns.

Clinical focus

Sena Sivri’s areas of clinical interest include Eating Disorders and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. In both areas, psychological assessment and structured psychotherapeutic work are typically carried out alongside the psychiatric team within the Psychiatry & Psychology unit, so that each patient’s care can be planned in a coordinated way. The approach taken in any individual case depends on the person’s history, current symptoms and previous treatment, and is discussed with the patient before work begins.

She also works in the areas of Smoke-Free Living and Neuropsychological Assessment. Smoke-Free Living refers to psychological support for people who wish to stop smoking and to maintain that change over time. Neuropsychological Assessment involves structured testing used to describe aspects of a person’s cognitive functioning; the findings are usually shared with the referring clinician so that they can be considered together with other clinical information. Whether a particular assessment or form of support is appropriate is decided on an individual basis after an initial consultation.

How Sena Sivri works with international patients

International patients who wish to consult Sena Sivri are supported by the international patient team, which coordinates the collection of prior reports and previous treatment records, arranges appointments and organises the hospital or outpatient clinic visit. Interpreters can be arranged where needed. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and current symptoms, a review of existing reports and previous treatments, a clinical assessment and a discussion of the possible options. For psychological care in particular, earlier assessment results, discharge summaries and notes from previous therapists or psychiatrists are helpful, as they allow the consultation to build on what has already been done rather than starting from the beginning. Any plan that follows is developed together with the patient and, where relevant, in coordination with the wider Psychiatry & Psychology team.
