Can zinc deficiency cause acne?

The relationship is real but easily overstated. Some studies have found lower average zinc levels in people with acne, and zinc plays legitimate roles in skin inflammation and healing — but that association doesn’t prove low zinc causes breakouts, and results from supplementation trials have been modest and inconsistent. Acne is driven primarily by hormones, oil production, bacteria, and genetics. If breakouts trouble you, evidence-based dermatology treatments have a far stronger track record than mineral supplements.
