Asst. Prof. Alper Özdilek, MD

Asst. Prof. Alper Özdilek, MD is an otorhinolaryngology specialist at Acibadem Maslak Hospital in İstanbul, where he works within the Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) unit with a subspecialty focus on head and neck surgery. With more than 21 years in medicine, his practice covers head and neck cancers, including oral cancer and tongue and tongue-base cancer, as well as nasal and sinus surgery, cochlear implants, vertigo and balance disorders, dysphagia, tonsillectomy and rhinoplasty.

Dr. Özdilek graduated from İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine in 2005. From 2005 to 2011 he trained as a research assistant at the İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine Department of Ear, Nose and Throat Diseases, completing his specialty training in 2011. He fulfilled his compulsory service obligation at Ağrı Patnos State Hospital from 2012 to 2013 and then worked as a specialist physician at Başkent University İstanbul Hospital (2013), Şişli Kolan International Hospital (2013–2014) and Medipol University Esenler Hospital (2014–2015). He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2015 and was appointed a doctor faculty member in Ear, Nose and Throat Diseases at Acıbadem University in 2019. He is a member of the Turkish Ear, Nose and Throat and Head and Neck Surgery Association, the Ear, Nose and Throat and Head and Neck Surgery Foundation, the Otoloji Nörootoloji Association, the İstanbul Ear, Nose and Throat and Head and Neck Surgery Specialists Association, the Facial Plastic Surgery Association and the Turkish Medical Association. His co-authored, peer-reviewed publications include work on vestibular disorders in children, anxiety in benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, endoscopic repair of nasal septal perforations, treatment comparisons in idiopathic sudden sensorineural hearing loss, and laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma.

Clinical focus

A central part of Dr. Özdilek’s work is head and neck surgery for cancers of the oral cavity, tongue and tongue base and other head and neck cancers. Evaluation and treatment planning for these conditions are based on the patient’s history, clinical examination and existing imaging and pathology findings. He also manages dysphagia, which may accompany head and neck disease or arise independently.

In otology and neurotology, his practice includes assessment of vertigo and balance disorders and hearing rehabilitation with cochlear implants in suitable candidates. He performs nasal and sinus surgery, including rhinoplasty, and general ENT procedures such as tonsillectomy. Whether a given procedure is appropriate is decided individually after clinical assessment.

How Dr. Özdilek works with international patients

Dr. Özdilek consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, arranges appointments and organises the hospital stay. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options.
