Prof. Arel Gereli, MD

Prof. Arel Gereli, MD is a specialist in Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology working in the Orthopedics & Joint Center, with subspecialty interests in hand surgery and shoulder and elbow surgery. He graduated from Ege University Faculty of Medicine in 2000 and completed his specialty training in orthopedics and traumatology at Haydarpaşa Numune Training and Research Hospital in 2004. He then worked at Derince Asker Hospital (2005–2006) and Erciş Devlet Hospital (2006) before joining Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2006, where he has practiced since.

Dr. Gereli has completed a series of postgraduate training programs abroad. These include the International Microsurgery Course in Linz, Austria (2007), training at the Clinic for Hand and Elbow Surgery of Rhön Klinikum in Bad Neustadt, Germany (2008), a period at the Philadelphia Hand Center of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, USA (2009), the International Shoulder Anatomy Course in Innsbruck, Austria (2016), and advanced shoulder surgery training in Japan and Korea in 2017 through the European Shoulder and Elbow Surgery Association (SECEC/ESSSE) traveling fellowship. In parallel with clinical work, he has held academic positions in the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology at Acıbadem University Faculty of Medicine, serving as a lecturer from 2011, assistant associate professor from 2013, and associate professor from 2015. He is a member of the Turkish Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery Association, the Turkish Shoulder and Elbow Surgery Association, the Turkish Orthopedics and Traumatology Association, the Turkish Orthopedics and Traumatology Education Council, the Turkish Orthopedics and Traumatology Union Association, SECEC/ESSSE, and the İstanbul Medical Chamber. His published research addresses topics such as distal radius fractures, scaphoid nonunion, phalangeal and metacarpal fractures, fracture-dislocations of the proximal ulna, and rotator cuff tear repair.

Clinical focus

Dr. Gereli’s clinical work centers on the upper extremity. In hand surgery, he evaluates and treats carpal tunnel syndrome, Dupuytren’s contracture, mallet finger, and hand and wrist injuries, including fractures and injuries to ligaments, tendons, and nerves. He also treats congenital hand differences such as syndactyly and polydactyly.

His practice further includes microsurgery, which is applied in the repair of small vessels and nerves, and shoulder and elbow surgery. Treatment recommendations are made after clinical examination and review of imaging, and may involve non-surgical management or surgical repair depending on the individual condition.
