Dr. Arzu Ercan

Dr. Arzu Ercan is a cardiovascular surgeon in the Cardiovascular Surgery unit at Acibadem Taksim Hospital and Acibadem Kozyatagi Hospital in İstanbul. Her subspecialty interests are Vascular Surgery and Varicose Vein Treatment, and her clinical work centers on venous and lymphatic conditions of the limbs, including venous insufficiency, varicose veins, lipedema and lymphedema. She has more than 27 years in medicine.

Dr. Ercan graduated from Uludağ University Faculty of Medicine in 1999 and completed her specialty training in Cardiovascular Surgery at Uludağ University Faculty of Medicine in 2007. Her early career included a position at Bursa Medical Park Hospital (2006–2007), followed by Bursa Şevket Yılmaz Hospital (2007–2010), where she worked as a Specialist Doctor and Deputy Chief Physician. She subsequently held posts at Bursa Rentıp Hospital (2010–2012) and Özel Balıkesir Sevgi Hospital (2012; 2016–2018). Since 2021 she has been based at İstanbul Kadıköy Acıbadem Hospital. Dr. Ercan is a member of the Turkish Vascular Surgery Association, TheSociety of Thoracic Surgeons, the Turkish Medical Association, the European Society for Cardiovascüler Surgery, the Turkish Society of Cardiovascular Surgery and the European Association for Cardio – ThoracicSurgery.

Clinical focus

Dr. Ercan’s practice is focused on vascular surgery, with particular attention to disorders of the veins and lymphatic system. She assesses and treats patients with venous insufficiency and varicose veins, and she also manages lipedema and lymphedema, conditions that cause chronic swelling of the limbs and often require a structured, long-term treatment plan. Because these conditions can overlap and present with similar symptoms, her assessment aims to distinguish between them before any treatment is discussed.

Her published and presented work spans several areas of cardiovascular surgery. Topics include the effects of trimetazidine, glucose–insulin–potassium and magnesium solution on the myocardium during beating heart and off-pump coronary artery bypass surgery, vascular complications of intra-aortic balloon pump use, mid-term results of the modified Bentall operation, ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysms, extracranial internal carotid artery aneurysm, and endovascular approaches to traumatic arterial lesions, including endovascular repair of a subclavian arteriovenous fistula following penetrating trauma. This work has been presented at national congresses of the Turkish Society of Cardiovascular Surgery, the Asian Society for Cardiovascular Surgery and the European Society for Cardiovascular Surgery, and published in journals such as the Dicle Medical Journal.

How Dr. Ercan works with international patients

Dr. Ercan speaks Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who prefer another language. The international patient team coordinates the collection of prior medical reports and imaging before the visit, arranges appointments and organises the hospital stay.
