Prof. Ayşe Yenigün, MD

Prof. Ayşe Yenigün, MD is a Pediatric Allergy specialist who sees patients in the Pediatrics unit at Acibadem Kent Hospital (Izmir). She graduated from Ege University Faculty of Medicine in 1974 and completed her specialist training in Child Health and Diseases at the same faculty in 1978. Between 2000 and 2002 she undertook Pediatric Allergy subspecialty training in the Ege University Faculty of Medicine Department of Child Health and Diseases, and in 2004 she completed training in Pediatric Immunology and Allergic Diseases at Ege University Faculty of Medicine. She has been in medicine for more than 52 years.

Her early career was spent at Ege University Faculty of Medicine, first in the Department of Parasitology as a Specialist in Child Health and Diseases (1978–1980), then in Child Health and Diseases (1980–1995), including work in the Pediatric Well-Child Outpatient Clinic (1991–1996). In 1996 she moved to Adnan Menderes University Faculty of Medicine, where she was appointed Professor Dr in the Department of Child Health and Diseases in 1997. She served as Head of the Department of Child Health and Diseases (2005–2011) and as Head of the Division of Pediatric Allergy (2004–2015). She joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2023. Dr. Yenigün is a member of the Turkish National Allergy and Clinical Immunology Association, the Child Allergy and Asthma Academy Association, the Child Respiratory Tract Diseases Association, EAACI The European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology and Unicef Milli Komitesi Aydın Şubesi, and she has held the presidency of the Turkish National Pediatrics Association Aydın Branch.

Clinical focus

Dr. Yenigün’s practice centers on allergic and related conditions in children. She evaluates and manages childhood asthma, food allergies in children and urticaria (hives) in children. Her work also covers allergic and inflammatory skin conditions, including atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, seborrheic dermatitis and eczema.

Because allergic disease in childhood often involves more than one organ system, such as the skin, the airways and the digestive tract, her assessment typically considers the child’s overall pattern of symptoms rather than a single complaint. Treatment recommendations are based on the individual child’s history, examination findings and any available test results, and are discussed with the family.

How Dr. Yenigün works with international patients

Dr. Yenigün consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for families who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, for example laboratory and pathology results, allergy test reports, X-ray reports, previous treatment records and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the child’s history and symptoms, a review of existing reports and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their child’s case before or instead of traveling.
