Assoc. Prof. Dr. Berkin Toker

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Berkin Toker is an Orthopedic Surgery & Traumatology specialist at Acibadem Fulya Hospital in İstanbul, where he works within the Orthopedics & Joint Center. His subspecialty areas are hip and knee replacement surgery and foot and ankle surgery. He has more than 30 years in medicine, and his clinical work covers joint disease, joint replacement and the surgical and non-surgical management of sports-related injuries.

Dr. Toker studied medicine at İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine between 1996 and 2002. He then trained at the İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology from 2004 to 2009, completing his specialty training in Orthopedics and Traumatology in 2009. From 2010 to 2011 he worked as an orthopedics specialist at Mardin State Hospital, and he has held positions within Acıbadem Healthcare Services since 2011, with a further appointment in 2020. He is a member of the Turkish Orthopedics and Traumatology Association (TOTBİD), ASAMI and ASAMI TURK. His published research, appearing in journals including Arch Orthop Trauma Surg, Acta Orthop Belg and Acta Orthop Traumatol Turc, includes co-authored studies on external fixation and nailing techniques for lower extremity deformity correction and femoral lengthening, prognostic factors in osteosarcoma, external fixation in the management of complications related to musculoskeletal tumor surgery, and recurrence in extra-abdominal desmoid tumors.

Clinical focus

Dr. Toker’s practice centers on degenerative and traumatic conditions of the hip, knee, foot and ankle. He treats patients with joint diseases and osteoarthritis, and performs knee replacement surgery and hip replacement surgery where conservative measures are no longer sufficient and surgery is considered appropriate after clinical and imaging assessment. Whether joint replacement is suitable depends on the individual patient’s symptoms, joint condition and general health, and this is evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

A second area of his work is sports traumatology and knee and joint injuries, including cruciate ligament tears, meniscus tears and muscle tear treatment. He also provides foot and ankle surgery for patients with conditions affecting these joints. Treatment recommendations in these areas may range from non-operative management to surgical repair or reconstruction, depending on the nature and extent of the injury.
