Prof. Dr. Bülent Evren Erkul

Prof. Dr. Bülent Evren Erkul is an otorhinolaryngology specialist with a subspecialty focus on head and neck surgery. He sees patients in the Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) unit at Acibadem Dr. Sinasi Can (Kadikoy) Hospital in İstanbul and has more than 25 years in medicine. He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2026. Before that, he worked from 2022 to 2026 at Anadolu Sağlık Merkezi Hospital in Association with John Hopkins Medicine, and from 2010 to 2022 he was a faculty member at Gülhane Military Medical Academy, Haydarpaşa Training Hospital and Health Sciences University. Earlier in his career he served as a specialist physician at Elazığ Military Hospital (2007–2010) and as a general practitioner with the 25th Mechanized Infantry Brigade (2002–2004).

Dr. Erkul graduated from Gülhane Military Medical Academy Faculty of Medicine in 2001 and completed his specialty training at the Gülhane Military Medical Academy Department of Ear, Nose and Throat Diseases in 2007. In the same year he took part in an observership at the House Ear Clinic, Visiting Physicians Program, Los Angeles, California, USA. He became an Associate Professor in 2013 at Gülhane Military Medical Academy, Haydarpaşa Training Hospital, İstanbul, and in 2014 completed an observership at the Head and Neck Cancer Center, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Division, Pittsburgh. From 2015 to 2016 he undertook clinical and research subspecialty training as a fellow at the Medical University of South Carolina, Head&Neck Tumor Center, Charleston, SC, USA. He was appointed Professor in 2020 at Health Sciences University, Gülhane and Hamidiye Faculty of Medicine, İstanbul, and in 2024 he earned a PhD in Molecular Oncology from Health Sciences University, Hamidiye Health Sciences Institute. He is a member of the Turkish Ear Nose and Throat Head and Neck Surgery Association, the Turkish Head and Neck Cancers Association, the Avrupa Baş Boyun Kanserleri Association and the Türk Rinoloji Association, and he is a Founding Board Member of the Head and Neck Surgery Association.

Clinical focus

Dr. Erkul’s clinical work centers on oncologic surgery of the head and neck. He evaluates and treats head and neck cancers, including laryngeal cancer, tongue and tongue base cancer and salivary gland cancer. His practice also covers salivary gland diseases more broadly and thyroid surgery.

Alongside oncologic surgery, he sees patients with general ear, nose and throat concerns. These include hoarseness, snoring and nasal conditions requiring septoplasty or septorhinoplasty, the latter combining correction of the nasal septum with rhinoplasty. Nasal and sinus surgery is also among his areas of clinical interest. The suitability of any procedure is assessed individually after clinical examination and review of the patient’s findings.

How Dr. Erkul works with international patients

Dr. Erkul consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages. The Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, arranges appointments and organises the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the available options.
