Prof. Bülent Tıraş, MD

Prof. Bülent Tıraş, MD is a specialist in Gynecology and Obstetrics at Acibadem Maslak Hospital in İstanbul, where he sees patients through the Gynecology and Obstetrics unit and the Vitro Fertilization and Reproductive Medicine Center. His professional focus is on infertility, in vitro fertilization, intracytoplasmic sperm injection, reproductive endocrinology, advanced laparoscopic surgery and urogynecology. Dr. Tıraş graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 1984 and completed his Obstetrics and Gynecology training at Ege University Faculty of Medicine in 1992. During that period he spent a year as a research fellow at Hammersmith Hospital, University of London, Royal Postgraduate Medical School, in tubal microsurgery, laparoscopy and IVF with Prof. R.M.L. Winston, and trained in infertility and reproductive endocrinology at St. Mary’s Medical School, London, with Prof. Stephen Franks. After working as an Obstetrics and Gynecology specialist at Selçuk State Hospital from 1992 to 1994, he joined the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Gazi University Faculty of Medicine, where he worked from 1994 to 2011, becoming Associate Professor in 1997 and Professor in 2003. Further training included IVF and micromanipulation at Tel-Aviv University, Assaf Harofeh Medical School, in 1995 and, in 2000, infertility, IVF, microinjection and reproductive endocrinology at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, as well as advanced laparoscopic surgery and urogynecology at the Chattanooga Women’s LASER Center in Tennessee. From 2006 to 2011 he also worked at Anatolia IVF Center in Ankara. He has served as Secretary General and President of the Turkish Gynecology and Obstetrics Association and is a founding member of the Contraception and Reproductive Health Association and the Gynecological Endoscopy Association.

Clinical focus

Dr. Tıraş’s clinical work centers on infertility and assisted reproduction, including in vitro fertilization (IVF), intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), micromanipulation and reproductive endocrinology. Evaluation of a couple’s fertility may involve a review of hormonal factors, previous treatment cycles and any structural findings before the available options are discussed.

His surgical practice includes tubal microsurgery, laparoscopic and advanced laparoscopic surgery, gynecological endoscopy and urogynecology. His published work covers topics such as ICSI outcomes after fertility-sparing management of endometrial cancer, the incidence of stress urinary incontinence among women in Turkey, laparoscopic ultrasonography in the management of ovarian cysts, and the effects of rosiglitazone and metformin on menstrual cyclicity and hirsutism in polycystic ovary syndrome.
