Assoc. Prof. Burak Çıtamak, MD

Assoc. Prof. Burak Çıtamak, MD is a urologist at Acibadem Atakent Hospital in İstanbul, where he works in the Urology unit. His clinical interests include general urology, andrology and male reproductive health, the treatment of sexual dysfunction, the diagnosis and treatment of prostate diseases, and the treatment of urethral diseases. He has more than 15 years of experience in medicine and sees both local and international patients.

Dr. Çıtamak graduated from Gazi University Faculty of Medicine in 2011. He became a Fellow of the European Board of Urology (FEBU) in 2017 and completed his urology training at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 2018. From 2018 to 2021 he worked as a urology specialist at Halil İbrahim Özsoy Bolvadin State Hospital as part of his compulsory service, before joining Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2021. He is a member of the Üroonkoloji Association, the Urological Surgery Association and the European Urological Association. He has co-authored peer-reviewed publications in journals including the Journal of Urological Surgery, the International Journal of Clinical Practice, the Croatian Medical Journal and the European Journal of Pediatric Surgery, on subjects such as the percutaneous approach to kidney stones in children, shock wave lithotripsy in infants, endoscopic and conservative management of vesicoureteral reflux, prostate biopsy technique, and the prediction of conversion from partial to radical nephrectomy.

Clinical focus

Dr. Çıtamak evaluates and treats a range of urinary tract conditions. These include kidney diseases and kidney stones, bladder health and bladder diseases, and urinary incontinence. He is also involved in the diagnosis and treatment of prostate diseases and in the treatment of urethral diseases. In urological oncology, his areas of expertise include bladder cancer and kidney cancer.

A further part of his practice is andrology and male reproductive health. This covers the assessment and treatment of sexual dysfunction and the evaluation of male infertility. The choice of investigation and treatment depends on the individual patient’s history, examination findings and test results, and is discussed with the patient during consultation.

How Dr. Çıtamak works with international patients

Dr. Çıtamak speaks Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit.
