Prof. Çiğdem Kalaycık, MD

Prof. Çiğdem Kalaycık, MD is a specialist in otorhinolaryngology (ear, nose and throat medicine) at Acibadem Kozyatagi Hospital in İstanbul, where she works in the Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) unit. Her subspecialty is head and neck surgery. She has more than 20 years of experience in medicine and consults in Turkish and English.

Dr. Kalaycık graduated from Marmara University Faculty of Medicine in 2006. She completed her specialty training at the Haydarpaşa Numune Training and Research Hospital Department of Otorhinolaryngology in 2011. She has been part of Acıbadem Healthcare Services since 2023.

Clinical focus

A large part of Dr. Kalaycık’s practice concerns the nose and sinuses. She evaluates and treats patients with nasal obstruction and sinusitis, performs nasal endoscopy as part of the diagnostic assessment, and carries out nasal and sinus surgery when this is considered appropriate. Her surgical work includes septoplasty to correct a deviated nasal septum, rhinoplasty, and septorhinoplasty, which combines correction of the septum with reshaping of the external nose. She also sees patients with throat conditions such as pharyngitis, performs tonsil surgery, and assesses patients who snore.

Within head and neck surgery, Dr. Kalaycık evaluates and treats head and neck cancers and other conditions that may require surgery in this region. In addition, she assesses patients with vertigo and balance disorders, where the aim of the consultation is to clarify whether the symptoms have an ear-related cause and to discuss the possible management options. Treatment recommendations depend on the individual findings, and not every patient who is assessed will be a candidate for surgery.

How Dr. Kalaycık works with international patients

Dr. Kalaycık consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before the visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, for example CT or MRI reports, nasal endoscopy findings, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges the appointment and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and any previous treatments, a clinical examination of the ear, nose and throat, and a discussion of the options that may be suitable. Nasal endoscopy may be performed during this visit if it is clinically indicated. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their case with Dr. Kalaycık before deciding whether to travel; further examination and imaging may still be needed in person before a treatment plan can be confirmed.
