Prof. Duhan Fatih Bayrak, MD

Prof. Duhan Fatih Bayrak, MD is a cardiologist in the Cardiology Department of Acibadem Altunizade Hospital in İstanbul. With more than 26 years in medicine, his clinical work centers on cardiac rhythm disorders and interventional cardiology, including catheter ablation, pacemakers, atrial fibrillation, coronary artery disease and percutaneous coronary intervention. His practice also covers heart valve disease, atrial septal defect and angiography.

Dr. Bayrak graduated from İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 2000 and completed his cardiology training at Kartal Koşuyolu Yüksek İhtisas Training and Research Hospital in 2004. He worked in the Department of Cardiology at Koşuyolu Heart Hospital from 2000 to 2005, at Mardin Devlet Hospital in 2005 and at Yeditepe University Department of Cardiology from 2005 to 2009. Between 2009 and 2011 he worked in invasive cardiac electrophysiology and arrhythmia at UZ Brussels, Belgium. In 2012 he obtained European Cardiology Association board certifications in Interventional Cardiac Electrophysiology and Catheter Ablation and in Interventional Cardiac Pacing, and in the same year he joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services. He has served as a trainer for Medtronic and for Biosense Webster, Johnson and Johnson. He is a member of the Turkish Cardiology Association, the European Cardiology Association and the EHRA Europen Heart Rhythm Association. His published research addresses Brugada syndrome, atrial fibrillation, verification of pulmonary vein isolation during cryoballoon ablation, transseptal puncture, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and computed tomography coronary angiography.

Clinical focus

A central part of Dr. Bayrak’s practice is the assessment and treatment of arrhythmias, including atrial fibrillation. Depending on the individual situation, management may involve medication, catheter ablation or the implantation of a pacemaker. His training in invasive cardiac electrophysiology and his board certifications in catheter ablation and cardiac pacing relate directly to these procedures.

He also treats coronary artery disease, atherosclerosis, angina and heart attack, and performs angiography and percutaneous coronary intervention where these are indicated. Structural heart conditions in his practice include heart valve disease and atrial septal defect. His publications on 64-slice computed tomography coronary angiography examined its diagnostic performance in detecting coronary artery stenosis and in evaluating myocardial bridges. The suitability of any treatment is decided on a case-by-case basis after clinical evaluation.

Dr. Bayrak consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages.
