Prof. Dr. Eda Kepenekli

Prof. Dr. Eda Kepenekli is a pediatrician at Acibadem Altunizade Hospital in İstanbul, where she works in the Pediatrics unit with a focus on pediatric infectious diseases. Her clinical work centers on the diagnosis and treatment of infectious conditions in children, including common viral illnesses, childhood rash illnesses and upper respiratory tract infections. She has more than 23 years in medicine.

Dr. Kepenekli graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 2003. She completed her training in Child Health and Diseases at Dr. Sami Ulus Obstetrics and Gynecology, Child Health and Diseases Training and Research Hospital in 2009, and went on to complete training in Pediatric Infectious Diseases at Marmara University Faculty of Medicine in 2013. She joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2025. She is a member of the Pediatric Infectious Diseases and Immunization Association, the Marmara Pediatri Association and the European Society of Pediatric Infectious Diseases (ESPID).

Clinical focus

Dr. Kepenekli evaluates and treats infectious diseases in infants, children and adolescents. A substantial part of her practice concerns respiratory infections, including RSV infection and upper respiratory tract infections in children. She also sees children with rash illnesses, a group that includes chickenpox, measles, rubella and scarlet fever. Distinguishing between these conditions on clinical grounds can be difficult, particularly in the early stages, and her approach combines the child’s history, the pattern and timing of the rash, the presence of fever and other symptoms, and laboratory testing where it is indicated.

Her areas of expertise also include Kawasaki disease, a condition that presents with prolonged fever and features that may resemble an infectious rash illness. Recognizing it in a timely manner is an important part of pediatric infectious disease practice. Across all of these conditions, Dr. Kepenekli’s work covers both the diagnostic assessment and the subsequent treatment and follow-up of the child, in coordination with the family and, where needed, other pediatric colleagues.

How Dr. Kepenekli works with international patients

Dr. Kepenekli consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for families who speak other languages. Before a visit, the international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports, such as laboratory and pathology results, imaging reports, previous prescriptions and discharge summaries, arranges the appointment and organizes the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the child’s history and current symptoms, a review of existing test results and any previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the possible diagnoses and the options that follow from them. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss a child’s condition or review existing reports before deciding whether to travel; whether a remote assessment is sufficient depends on the individual case, and an in-person examination may still be recommended.
