Egemen Duygu, MD

Egemen Duygu, MD is a cardiologist at Acibadem International Hospital in İstanbul, where he works in the Cardiology Department. He then worked in the Coronary Intensive Care and Interventional Cardiology Laboratory at İstanbul Memorial Hospital from 2006 to 2007, at the Sarıkamış Military Hospital Cardiology Clinic from 2007 to 2008, and in the Cardiology Clinic Intensive Care and Interventional Cardiology Laboratory at Kahramanmaraş State Hospital from 2008 to 2011. He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2011. Dr. Duygu is a member of the European Society of Cardiology and the European Association of Percutaneous Cardiovascular Interventions. His published work includes articles on the clinical significance of increased troponin levels outside acute coronary syndromes, prophylaxis in infective endocarditis, the relation between obstructive sleep apnea and echocardiographic findings in hypertensive patients, and the effects of chronic biomass fuel smoke exposure on peripheral endothelial function.

Clinical focus

A large part of Dr. Duygu’s practice concerns coronary artery disease, including the use of angiography in its evaluation. He also assesses and manages hypertension and low blood pressure, and follows patients with hyperlipidemia, a condition that is closely linked to cardiovascular risk. Arrhythmias are another area of his work, with Holter rhythm monitoring used to document heart rhythm over time and pacemaker care provided for patients who have an implanted device.

Dr. Duygu also evaluates heart valve diseases, including mitral valve regurgitation and rheumatic heart disease. Echocardiography is a central diagnostic tool in this setting, allowing the structure and function of the heart and its valves to be examined non-invasively. The choice of further tests or treatment depends on the individual findings and is discussed with each patient.

How Dr. Duygu works with international patients

Dr. Duygu consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages.
