Assoc. Prof. Dr. Elif Ganime Aygün

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Elif Ganime Aygün is a specialist in Gynecology & Obstetrics at Acibadem Atakent Hospital in İstanbul. Her clinical work covers gynecological evaluation, reproductive health, pregnancy follow-up and childbirth, and minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, including robotic surgery and vNOTES scarless surgery. Within her specialty she has a particular interest in urinary incontinence and bladder health and in the care of women during and after menopause.

Dr. Aygün graduated from İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine in 2000 and completed her training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Dr.Lütfi Kırdar Kartal Training and Research Hospital in 2006. She then completed a period of public service, which included a specialist post at Lice State Hospital (2006–2007), before working as a specialist physician at Private Dünya Maternity Hospital (2007–2008), Private Veni Vidi Hospital (2009–2013) and Private Bağlar Hospital (2013–2015). She has been part of Acıbadem Healthcare Services since 2014. She is a member of the Gynecological Endoscopy Association, the Turkish Gynecology and Obstetrics Association, AAGL, the Pelvic Pain and Endometriosis Association, the Stem Cell and Cellular Therapies Association and ESHRE. Her published work includes articles on hysteroscopic endometrial injury in patients with recurrent implantation failure, office hysteroscopy in the evaluation of endometrial thickening in postmenopausal women, laparoscopic management of heterotopic pregnancy, single-port total laparoscopic hysterectomy in deep infiltrating endometriosis, cesarean scar pregnancies, and the prevalence of gestational diabetes mellitus.

Clinical focus

A large part of Dr. Aygün’s practice is concerned with reproductive health. She evaluates and treats women with infertility and provides fertility care, including for patients with polycystic ovary syndrome. She also treats endometriosis, where management may range from medical treatment to laparoscopic or robotic surgery depending on the individual situation. Pregnancy follow-up and childbirth form another established part of her work.

In gynecologic surgery, Dr. Aygün performs robotic gynecologic surgery, vNOTES scarless surgery (a transvaginal approach that avoids abdominal incisions) and hysterectomy. She also assesses and treats urinary incontinence and other bladder health concerns, provides care for symptoms related to menopause, and performs genital aesthetic procedures. The choice of approach is made after clinical assessment and a discussion of the possible benefits and limitations of each option.

Dr. Aygün consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages.
