Prof. Dr. Engin Oral

Prof. Dr. Engin Oral is a specialist in Gynecology & Obstetrics at Acibadem Atakent Hospital in İstanbul. His clinical interests include polycystic ovary syndrome, infertility, menopause, endometriosis, pelvic pain and pelvic functional disorders, and he works within the gynecology, menopause, endometriosis treatment, pelvic pain treatment and reproductive medicine services of the hospital. He has more than 38 years of experience in medicine.

Dr. Oral graduated from İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1988 and completed his training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 1992. From 1995 to 1996 he worked at Yale University in gynecology, with a focus on reproductive endocrinology and infertility. In 1996 he returned to İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine, where he became an associate professor in 1997 and a professor in 2003. In the same year he joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services. In 2025 he was appointed affiliate professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Umea University in Sweden.

Clinical focus

Dr. Oral’s practice centers on reproductive endocrinology and reproductive medicine. He evaluates and treats women with polycystic ovary syndrome, a hormonal condition that can affect menstrual cycles, ovulation and fertility. He also sees patients with infertility, working within the in vitro fertilization and reproductive medicine center to assess possible causes and to discuss the treatment options that may be appropriate for each individual or couple.

A further part of his work concerns endometriosis and pelvic pain. Endometriosis can cause painful periods, chronic pelvic pain and difficulty conceiving, and its management is planned according to the patient’s symptoms, findings and reproductive goals. Dr. Oral also treats pelvic functional disorders and cares for women during and after the menopause, addressing symptoms and health concerns that may arise during this transition. In each of these areas, decisions about medical or surgical treatment are made after a careful review of the patient’s history and examination findings.

How Dr. Oral works with international patients

Dr. Oral consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, arranges appointments and organizes the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the available options. Video consultations are available for international patients who wish to discuss their situation with Dr. Oral before traveling or as a follow-up after treatment.
